History of Bluey Blundstone’s

In 1864 William 'bluey' Blundstone and his wife Martha built from stone a Blacksmith Shop, stables and humble pug and pine dwelling in Melrose which is the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges established in 1846 with the discovery of copper. Set in the foothills of the majestic Mt Remarkable, Melrose is situated in one of the most pictuersque areas of South Australia. Now an international tourist destination, Melrose is recognised along with Mt Remarkable and acclaimed for its bicycle tracks with local and international bike enthusiasts gathering in their thousands annually at Melrose.

The blacksmith shop and dwellings were authentically restored in 1992 and in 1994 listed in the State Heritage Register. The stone smithy boasts an original and unique double forge, 7' bellow, floor mandrll with tools and machinery pertaining to the era with an adjoing humble pug and pine dwelling. Giving singles, couples and families the chance to stay in historic, heritage listed residences; travellers are given the choice of 3 separate stand alone properties set on 3/4 of an acre of native gardens. Each property is uniquelly different from the other in both character and charm.
